3 Tasty Homemade Dog Treat Recipes to Try at Home

Food rewards are extremely effective for teaching our dogs more appropriate behaviors. I find personally that our spoiled hounds sometimes get bored of eating the same store purchased treats over and over. We do what we can to keep things fresh and random by purchasing different brands and flavors and textures. However, an easy and cheap way to add some pizzazz to your treating routine is to make your own dog treats. This can also be a great option for dogs with medical issues or allergies that prevent them from safely eating certain foods or ingredients, since you control what goes into the cookies. I have listed and linked my favorite DIY dog treat recipes below. Enjoy!

DIY Dog Treat Recipes to Try at Home

  1. Liver Treat Recipe from Spot On Wellness

I love this recipe for many reasons, but one of the things I like most about it is that it is limited ingredient. Sometimes I work with dogs that have food allergies, and treats with fewer ingredients will be safer for a larger population of dogs. These treats only 3 ingredients, so if your dog isn’t allergic to one of those 3, it should be smooth sailing! Beef liver is also a high value snack that tends to be highly palatable for most dogs. It is also easy to make (even for me). Another reason this recipe snags my number one spot is that it is written by veterinarians! So you know that it is a safe and healthier option for your precious pup.

The recipe was created and posted by Dr. Hartai and Dr. Hartai who are both veterinarians in the Dallas area. You can find the recipe and try it for yourself on their facebook page which I have linked here.

  2. No Bake Peanut Butter Dog Treats

My second homemade dog treat suggestion is this no bake option linked below. Yes, you read that correctly. NO BAKE. This recipe is SO easy and basically just requires you to mix the ingredients. It is a quick process too, 15 minutes and you’ve got some homemade treats for your dog! These also only have 4 ingredients. (Seeing a trend?)

I couldn’t find the name of the author of the recipe, but I got it from damndelicious.net. Direct link to the recipe, here.

3. Homemade Dog Treats with Peanut Butter and Pumpkin

These tasty snacks will be sure to have your pooch begging for more! Written by Trish from Mom On Time Out, the easy to follow recipe can be found here. This treat is also limited ingredient containing only 5 ingredients (and 1 is optional). Plus they have a beagle, and you know how I feel about that. 😍

Happy training! Let me know which one is your dog’s favorite!
